– Dr. Statement by Neelam Gorhe, Deputy Speaker, Maharashtra State Legislative Council

At the opening of the St. Petersburg International Economics Forum held in St. Petersburg, Dr. Neelam Gorhe was speaking. For this international conference Guzeliya Imaeva, CEO Nafi Research Center, Galino Karelova, Vice President, Russian Federation Assembly, Northern Affairs, Hind Al Naqbi, Senior Manager Navah Energy Company, Elena Isagulova Vice President, V. K. Company, Marina Medvedeva, Managing Director, Seabur, Alexandra Bic, Founder, Nuclear Industry Women’s Association, Lyud Mila Shcherbakova, President, Whale Farm, Tatyana Yakoleva, Central Health and Biological Mechanism of the Russian Nation and Anna Kharmas, Deputy Director Games of the Futures “Multiple Centers Participated in the Global Symposium on “Effect of Development Policy on Economic Empowerment of Women under Transition to Global Economy”.
Speaking on that occasion, Dr. Gorhe said that the impact of globalization is huge in economic empowerment of women and poverty alleviation. Globalization has given various opportunities, however, if we try to look at it broadly, at the same time, we have to see what we have achieved.
Let’s also not forget the lessons we have learned from global movements and forums.
I would like to mention the Commission on the Status of Women, every year at the United Nations. And from March 8, International Women’s Day, to the conference in Nairobi, to the conference in Beijing, to the World Conference on Women, there are two action plans, each year there are action plans that governments around the world hold accountable for women.
How many women are working on this issue? We should evaluate it ourselves!
The role of “World Economic Forum” and “Commission for Status of Women” is very important for women to get opportunities and achieve their goals.
All nations around the world have to submit their response to the Action Plan prepared by the Commission for the Status of Women. So it is very important.
Increasing participation of women in politics further helps in their empowerment.
Increasing participation of women is critical to achieving the “Sustainable Development Goals”.
It is necessary to promote gender equality and economic empowerment, prevent human trafficking, sexual harassment and protect child rights. In this regard, good efforts have been made in Russia. Also, the Memorandum of Understanding signed between “Maharashtra Legislative Council, Legislative Assembly” and “Legislature at St. Petersburg” is important in this regard.
Startup industry is growing in India. Also, progress is being made in the field of handicrafts and agriculture.
India has one of the fastest growing start-up ecosystems, growing to 47% as of November 22. I would also like to mention that, while we are talking, we should also have cruelty-free, chemical-free and vegan-free products. India is also known to be rich in produce, and the Indian government is increasingly funding agricultural production so that biologically, safer products can be produced. And basically it is very useful for rural women. Also, when we’re thinking about megatrends, let’s not forget about disasters. Along with the megatrends, every country is facing devastation as landslides, hailstorms, high water forces people out of their areas and in such situations, who is more vulnerable? Women with children, physically challenged women, elderly women. And in these situations, young women are also victims of sexual exploitation. So what kinds of
action plans can be fruitful? I think that over the next few years, if we can think about best practices and share more along these lines, it would certainly be helpful.
The audience applauded Dr. Appreciated Gorhe’s speech.
